Abstract

The aim of the study was to investigate the reading Behaviour of thiruvalluvar library users on newspaper information at Periyar university which is in Tamilnadu state. For this research, a purposive sampling method has been chosen. The structured questionnaire was developed and distributed to 100 respondents, out of these 86 questionnaires were taken to sample. The MS-excel application software was used to analyze and interpret the data. From the finding of the study that the male respondent was the dominant factor at 65.1%, most of the respondents were from science background and postgraduates. In the access frequency, education related content has the highest frequency rate at 95.2%, it is obvious, followed by politics content also the same as education content frequency level. It should be highlighted one, whereas advertisement content has the lowest frequency. It means the respondents did not see the newspaper as a promotion platform. In the information quality satisfaction level, bias has high mean value, meanwhile trust worthiness has low mean value. These aligning findings questioned the ethical standards of newspapers. The publisher needs to ensure neutrality in newspaper information. Most of the respondents perceived political allegation content has highly consumed the newspaper pages. After that, judicial related content is the second variable of users’ perception on information abundance. This study helps to refine the newspaper ethical factors by stakeholders and make libraries effective in providing precise and satisfiable newspaper service to their patrons.
