Abstract
Benzimidazole is a pharmaceutically important compound. In this research, we were able to prepare several heterocyclic derivatives from it by first preparing a new azo derivative ZH through a reaction of 3-aminoacetophenone with benzimidazole-2-acetonitrile. This azo derivative was then introduced via a condensation reaction with aromatic amine derivatives, resulting in the preparation of two Schiff base derivatives Z1 and Z2. From these bases, six and seven membered heterocyclic derivatives were prepared by reacting with 2-amino benzoic acid, 2-mercapto benzoic acid and itaconic anhydride. The thiazine ring is considered one of the six membered rings that contain two types of heterogeneous atoms, which contain four carbon atoms, one nitrogen atom, and one sulfur atom, among the many available heterocyclic compounds, benzimidazoles remain one of the important antimicrobial agents. Benzimidazole derivatives play an important role in biochemistry, serving as crucial intermediates in the synthesis pathways of many biologically active compounds ., The physiochemical properties of synthesized derivatives include melting point, color, and yield were determined, and the synthesized derivatives were characterized using infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), (1H-NMR) and (13C-NMR) Nuclear magnetic resonance and their purity was confirmed by thin layer chromatography. These compounds were evaluated as antibacterial activity against Klebsiella pneumoniae and Staphylococcus aureus and antifungal agents.
