Abstract

India has become a global leader in vaccinology, playing a vital role in developing, producing, and distributing vaccines that protect millions of lives. By embracing advances in molecular immunology, recombinant antigen technology, and virus-like particle (VLP) platforms, the country has created affordable vaccines against major diseases, including poliovirus, rotavirus, and SARS-CoV-2. National initiatives, like Mission Indradhanush and Vaccine Maitri, have helped expand immunization coverage, improve public health, and share vaccines with countries in need, reflecting India’s commitment to both national and global health. The development of homegrown vaccines, such as Shanvac-B, showcases how cutting-edge biotechnology can be translated into practical solutions that make a real difference in people’s lives. Strong regulatory frameworks, including the New Drugs and Clinical Trials Rules (2019) and rigorous chemistry, manufacturing, and controls (CMC) standards, ensure that every vaccine is safe, effective, and capable of generating a strong immune response. Innovations in adjuvants, high-yield production methods, and public–private collaborations have further strengthened India’s position in global immunization efforts. With experience in large-scale vaccination drives, research on novel vaccine platforms, and efficient distribution systems, the country is well-prepared to respond swiftly to new health threats. As infectious diseases continue to emerge and public health challenges evolve, India’s dedication to scientific innovation, strategic planning, and international collaboration will remain essential to safeguard communities, enhance long-term resilience, and ensure a healthier future for people both within the country and around the world.
