Abstract

This study explores the persistent issue of mental health in the workplace and evaluates how collaboration among human resource (HR) teams can improve the day-to-day experiences of employees living with mental health conditions. To capture an accurate and timely understanding of effective organizational responses, the research employs a mixed-methods approach to examine the strategies required to address the ongoing mental health challenge. Additionally, this study aims to close the gap between ideal employer responsibilities and current approaches to encouraging mental health conversations. The results suggest that many organizations need to make greater investments in staff training to improve the recognition of, and support for, employees experiencing mental health challenges. Moreover, the results highlight that proclaimed awareness of mental health’s importance does not fully translate into unbiased hiring practices, as organizations continue to show unconscious bias toward individuals with mental health challenges. This mindset must be addressed by integrating evidence- based mindfulness and stress-reduction practices to improve employees’ mental health and overall well-being.
