Abstract

The Indus Valley Civilization (3300–1300 BCE) was among the first in the world to develop advanced metallurgy. They created bronze tools, copper vessels, and intricate metal ornaments. A testament to ancient Indian metallurgy, this rust-resistant iron pillar, built during the Gupta Empire, still stands without significant corrosion, demonstrating an advanced understanding of material science. The study examines key texts and technologies, including Panini’s Ashtadhyayi (a formal system of grammar resembling rule-based computation), the logic systems of Nyaya and Mimamsa schools, as well as ancient mathematical and algorithmic developments such as the works of Pingala, Aryabhata, and Bhaskara. By analyzing these contributions through a modern computational lens, the paper highlights parallels between traditional Indian knowledge systems and contemporary AI concepts like rule-based reasoning, symbolic logic, and machine learning. The research also investigates how these indigenous frameworks can inspire ethical and context-sensitive approaches to AI development. Through a multidisciplinary approach that bridges history, linguistics, logic, and computer science, this study repositions Indian historical technology as a valuable precursor to modern AI thought and underscores the global nature of technological evolution.
