Polymer chemistry has revolutionized dental materials, offering enhanced mechanical strength, durability, and biocompatibility. The integration of polymer-based materials in dentistry has led to significant advancements in restorative, prosthetic, and preventive treatments. This paper explores the role of polymers in dental applications, focusing on composite resins, denture bases, impression materials, and adhesive systems. The synthesis and modification of polymers have allowed for the development of high-performance materials with improved wear resistance, esthetics, and longevity. Recent innovations in polymer chemistry have introduced bioactive and nanocomposite materials that promote remineralization, reduce bacterial adhesion, and enhance overall oral health. Smart polymers with self-healing properties and antimicrobial functionalities represent a new frontier in dental research, providing potential solutions for extending the lifespan of restorations and reducing secondary caries. Additionally, advancements in photopolymerization techniques have optimized curing efficiency, minimizing polymerization shrinkage and enhancing mechanical stability. The growing role of nanotechnology in polymer-based dental materials has enabled the incorporation of nanoparticles to improve mechanical properties, wear resistance, and antibacterial effects. Hydrogel-based polymers are also gaining attention for their use in tissue engineering and drug delivery applications in periodontics and endodontics. Furthermore, the application of 3D printing technologies in polymer-based dental materials is transforming the field by enabling personalized treatment solutions and complex dental prostheses with high precision. This paper discusses the latest developments in polymer chemistry for dental applications, highlighting the challenges and future prospects of polymer-based innovations in modern dentistry.
