During the 2018/19 cropping season, a field trial involving 49 bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) genotypes was conducted at the Kokate and Hossana research sub-stations in Southern Ethiopia. The aim was to assess various characteristics within these genotypes. A simple lattice design was employed, and data on 11 quantitative traits were gathered and analyzed using SAS statistical software. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) revealed that there were notable differences in most of the traits studied, based on location, genotype, and the interaction between genotype and location. Particularly, biological yield and harvest index exhibited high phenotypic and genotypic coefficient of variation (PCV and GCV), suggesting their suitability for effective selection and prediction of genotypic potential based on their phenotypic expressions. Traits such as days to 50% heading, biological yield, and harvest index showed high heritability and genetic advance as a percentage of the mean, suggesting the involvement of additive gene action. Therefore, selecting for these traits would be beneficial.”
