Abstract
Bryophyllum pinnatum, commonly referred to as the “miracle leaf” or “life plant,” is a succulent medicinal plant widely valued in traditional medicine. It is well known for its broad range of pharmacological activities, including wound-healing, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties, making it an important species in natural and herbal therapeutics. This study aimed to formulate a topical cream incorporating Bryophyllum pinnatum extract and evaluate its physicochemical properties, stability, and potential for skin care applications. The extract was obtained through maceration using alcoholic solvent, followed by phytochemical screening, which confirmed the presence of flavonoids, alkaloids, and tannins compounds known for their beneficial effects on the skin. The cream was formulated by the water-in-oil emulsion approach, followed by evaluation of its physicochemical characteristics, including pH, viscosity, spreadability, and homogeneity. The results indicate that Bryophyllum pinnatum cream (Formulation F2) performed better than F1 and F3. Therefore, F2 can be considered the most effective formulation. However, further studies are needed to confirm its effectiveness and safety in clinical use.
