Abstract

Healthcare institutions produce substantial amounts of information through electronic health records, laboratory systems, medical imaging technologies, patient monitoring devices, and various digital healthcare platforms. Managing and interpreting these continuously growing datasets through conventional approaches can be difficult and time-consuming. Big Data technologies offer advanced methods for storing, processing, and analyzing healthcare information efficiently, enabling healthcare professionals to obtain valuable insights for clinical and administrative purposes. This review explores the growing role of Big Data in modern healthcare and describes its essential features, applications, and contribution to healthcare decision-making. It examines how healthcare organizations can utilize large-scale data analytics to support disease prediction, personalized treatment, hospital resource optimization, medical research, and public health surveillance. Overall, the findings indicate that Big Data technologies can strengthen healthcare services by supporting informed decisions, improving operational efficiency, and enhancing patient outcomes. The study further explores the benefits associated with Big Data adoption, including improved patient outcomes, timely disease identification, cost optimization, and enhanced operational performance. At the same time, challenges – such as data privacy, information security, data integration, and infrastructure requirements – are discussed. Addressing these issues is essential for the effective implementation of Big Data solutions within healthcare environments. Overall, Big Data has emerged as an important technological resource that can strengthen healthcare services, improve efficiency, and support evidence-based decision-making. Continued advancements in analytics and digital health technologies are expected to further expand its role in the future development of healthcare systems.
