Abstract
In today’s era, psychologists need to comprehend the complex dynamics of burden on parents and how it affects mental health relapse. Rationale: The chapter explores the relationship between high levels of expressive emotion (e.g., anger, criticism, and emotional over-involvement) and parents’ stress. There is a critical need for focused therapies by examining a variety of models and research, that focus on neurodevelopmental disorders, schizophrenia, and bipolar illness. Creating efficient support systems for carers requires an understanding of the relationships between the emotional experiences of the carer and patient relapse. Methodology: The comprehensive literature review and systematic analysis analyzed the past 10 years’ papers from 2014–2024. It summarizes clinical data and current research to shed light on how emotional responses from parents affect patient’s and parents’ psychological health. Result: The result shows that these treatments lower the risk of relapse in people with mental health problems by treating emotional stress and parents’ load. This eventually improves long-term results for both carers and those receiving treatments. Implication: By addressing the emotional ripple effects that lead to mental health relapse, this thorough investigation will help to enhance outcomes and strengthen mental health support networks.
Keywords: Emotional over-involvement, expressed emotion, mental health relapse, parental burden, therapeutic interventions
