Abstract

nIntroduction: Deep breathing exercises may be used to restore lung oxygenation ventilation function and are anticipated to enhance respiratory parameters. Aim: This study was done to examine the effectiveness of deep breathing exercise on respiratory parameters among post extubated patients. Methodology: A quasi experimental (pre-test, post-test control group) with quantitative approach study was conducted to assess the effect of deep breathing exercise on respiratory parameters among 30 post extubated patients selected by non- probability purposive sampling technique admitted in intensive care units Deep breathing exercise was done for 15 minutes twice daily for 5 days in the experimental group. After 30 minutes of deep breathing exercise, post- intervention assessment was done in both groups. Measurement of the respiratory parameters was obtained from monitor, pulse oximeter, and ABG. Results: The finding revealed that for respiratory parameters, in respiratory rate there was statistically significant difference among post extubated patients in experimental and control group from day 3 evening session today 5 (p<0.05). In SpO2 there was statistically significant difference among post extubated patients in experimental and control group from day 3 to day 5 (p<0.05). In FiO2 there was statistically significant difference among post extubated patients in experimental and control group from day 4 to day 5 (p<0.05). In SPO2/FIO2 there was statistically significant difference among post extubated patients in experimental and control group from day3 to day 5 (p<0.05). In PaO2 there was statistically significant difference among post extubated patients in experimental and control group from day 3 to day 5 (p<0.05). In PaO2/FiO2 there was statistically significant difference among post extubated patients in experimental and control group from day 3 to day 5 (p<0.05) Conclusion: The present study findings revealed that deep breathing exercise is effective nursing intervention on respiratory parameters among post extubated patients.
