Special Issue Description

Cell polarity is the term for the inherent asymmetry that can be seen in a cell’s form, organization, or combination of cellular components. Most epithelial cells, cells that migrate, and cells that are growing need some kind of cell polarity to operate. These cells utilize external biochemical and mechanical cues to gather information about their environment, and they then transform that information into the polarity of the plasma membrane, its associated proteins, and the structure of the cytoskeletal system. Most multicellular creatures require the ability of cells to polarize, which is an innate quality of practically all cells. Cells incorporate a variety of information from intrinsic and extrinsic sources to develop cell polarity. Cell-cell adhesion receptors have emerged as significant regulators of cellular polarization in recent years. They control the recruitment of polarity complexes to regions of cell-cell adhesion through interactions with conserved cell polarity proteins. They cause their subcellular activation by starting intracellular signaling cascades at those locations. It should come as no surprise that cell-cell adhesion receptors control several features of cell polarity, such as apicobasal polarity in epithelial and endothelial cells, front-to-rear polarity in cells that migrate in groups, and planar cell polarity during organ development .

Manuscript Submission information

Manuscripts should be submitted online via the manuscript Engine. Once you register on APID, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline.
All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the email address:[email protected] for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a Double-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for the submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page.
