Special Issue Description

Occupational Therapy (OT) is an integral part of the healthcare system. It focuses on developing, recovering, or maintaining the daily living and working skills of people with physical, mental, or cognitive impairments in a wide range of areas like pediatrics, neurological science, musculoskeletal conditions, mental health, etc. The main aim of OT is to approach patient care holistically. To do this, occupational therapists often use everyday activities, exercises, and other therapies. Some of the common interventions of OT include helping children with disabilities to participate in school and social situations; injury rehabilitation; supporting the aging population through experiencing physical and cognitive changes, and assessing assistive technology options to maximize independent function while alleviating the risk of pressure injury. Occupational therapists are typically university-educated professionals who must pass a licensing exam before practicing. Physical therapists, speech-language pathologists, audiologists, nurses, social workers, psychologists, physicians, and assistive technology professionals frequently collaborate with occupational therapists.
