Special Issue Description

Initially, computer languages like Fortran and ALGOL were used to create software for CAD systems; but, with the development of object-oriented programming techniques, this has drastically changed. The foundation of most contemporary freeform surface and parametric feature-based modeler systems is a collection of essential C modules, each with its API. A graphical user interface (GUI) and NURBS geometry or boundary representation (B-rep) data are interacted with by a geometric modeling kernel to create a CAD system.CAD is primarily used for the detailed engineering of 3D models or 2D drawings of actual physical components, but it is also utilized throughout the entire engineering process, from conceptual design and layout of products, through strength and dynamic analysis of assemblies, to the definition of manufacturing methods for components. Engineers and architects can design, check, and manage engineering projects using CAD software on a personal computer system with an integrated graphical user interface (GUI). The majority of applications allow for the publication of solid modeling with boundary representation (B-Rep) and NURBS geometry in several different formats. The associative links’ unexpected capacities have given rise to a new type of prototyping known as digital prototyping. Unlike actual prototypes, which require time for fabrication during the design phase. However, when the real prototype has been scanned by an industrial CT scanning device, CAD models can be produced by a computer. Digital or physical prototypes might be originally selected based on specific needs depending on the type of business. All the major operating systems today—Windows, Linux, UNIX, and Mac OS X—have CAD systems available; some packages support multiple operating systems. The majority of CAD software does not yet require any specialized hardware. A current graphics card, fast (and maybe several) CPUs, and lots of RAM may be advised, while certain CAD programs can perform graphically and computationally complex jobs.
