Special Issue Description

Genetic mapping is an effective method for identifying genes and biological processes that underpin any trait influenced by inheritance, including human diseases. The technique can identify the initial mutations from which a tumor evolved and then uses computer software to map a patient cancer profile by drawing the cancer family tree. This will enable doctors to use targeted cancer treatment more effectively. The discovery of genetic alterations that appear consistently in specific types and stages of cancer provides a strong impetus for cancer geneticists to focus their research on such volatile regions of the human genome. The recent development of powerful molecular cytogenetic and molecular genetic methods allows for more detailed analysis, which will aid researchers in their efforts to determine whether such areas of the human genome play a functional role in the initiation and progression of leukemias and solid tumors. Hair and eye color, body type, and other physical characteristics are determined by genes that are passed down from generation to generation. Regrettably, some gene mutations are inherited in the same manner. The mapping of the human genome has assisted physicians in identifying some hereditary mutations that may lead to cancer. These gene disorders, known as hereditary cancer syndromes, are linked to about 10% of all cancers.

Manuscript Submission information

Manuscripts should be submitted online via the manuscript Engine. Once you register on APID, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline.
All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the email address:[email protected] for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a Double-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for the submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page.
