Special Issue Description

The gap between water supply and demand is growing as the world’s population rises, and it has now gotten so bad in some places that it poses a threat to human existence. New methods of water conservation are being developed by scientists all around the world. Refocusing on one method of water recycling—using sewage from cities for irrigation and other uses—is time-appropriate. This could allow for the release of clean water for use in other industries that require it as well as provide industries that can use wastewater for things like irrigation and other ecosystem services. Wastewater is often defined as liquid waste produced every day by families, businesses, and industries for use in production and consumption. Contrary to popular belief, agriculture uses wastewater on a far more regular basis. Around 20 million hectares of fertile land are reportedly being watered with wastewater at this time in other parts of the world. It is reasonable to assume that wastewater consumption in agriculture is significantly higher than is publicly disclosed. It is especially prevalent in metropolitan and peri-urban areas of poor countries, where insufficient institutional and financial resources make it difficult to install and run suitable infrastructure for effective wastewater collection and treatment. Wastewater usage in agriculture has some advantages, including supplying water and nutrients for crop cultivation, ensuring the supply of food to cities, and easing the burden on freshwater resources.

Manuscript Submission information

Manuscripts should be submitted online via the manuscript Engine. Once you register on APID, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline.
All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the email address:[email protected] for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a Double-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for the submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page.
