Special Issue Description

When healthy cells undergo changes and uncontrolled growth, cancer develops. These cells build up into a mass known as a tumor in most cancer forms. A tumor may be benign or malignant. Malignant refers to the ability of a cancerous tumor to develop and metastasize to different body regions. Any part of the body, including the blood and lymphatic systems, the brain and spinal cord (central nervous system, or CNS), the kidneys, and other organs and tissues, can develop cancer in children. For most cases of pediatric cancer, there is no recognized cause. Even when they begin in the same place in the body, childhood malignancies have the potential to behave substantially differently from adult tumors. A genetic disorder in children, such as Down syndrome, can occasionally raise the risk of cancer. Children who have undergone chemotherapy or radiation therapy for cancer are more prone to get the disease once more. But random mutations (changes) in the genomes of developing cells are the primary cause of the majority of pediatric cancer cases. We invite you to submit your research on pediatric oncology, tumor, gene therapy, and chemotherapy for this special edition of the international journal of oncological nursing.
