Volatile organic compound emissions from road marking paints

Abstract Submission Deadline : November 30, 2024

Manuscript Submission Deadline : December 25, 2024

Special Issue Description

Contrasting regulations, definitions, and calculations for emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOC) from paints used for horizontal road markings (traffic paints) in North America and the European Union are frequently impossible. To demonstrate the differences, the nominal emissions of solvent packages from various exemplary paints that satisfy several normative standards were compared using various calculating methods. The volatile components of the paints were assessed uniformly based on Ozone Formation Potential (OFP). The investigation showed that even with comparable nominal VOC concentrations, OFP can differ greatly, in the worst case by a factor of six. Thus, it makes sense why OFP calculations that were strangely high—despite rigorous limits—were made for Southern California emissions. The calculations offered can be used by road administration as a tool to demand materials with the lowest environmental impact, by environmental researchers to identify discrepancies between reported and measured discharges, and by formulating chemists to help them choose raw materials to create ecologically friendly road marking paints.

Manuscript Submission information

Manuscripts should be submitted online via the manuscript Engine. Once you register on APID, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline.
All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the email address:[email protected] for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a Double-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for the submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page.
