Special Issue Description

Immunization is a crucial component of adult care, including for pregnant women. Because pregnant women who get influenza are more likely to experience maternal morbidity and death as well as fetal morbidities, such as congenital abnormalities, spontaneous abortion, preterm birth, and low birth weight, influenza immunization is especially crucial for pregnant women. The immunization status of their pregnant patients should be routinely evaluated by obstetricians-gynecologists and other obstetric care providers. They should advise and, if practical, deliver the necessary vaccinations to their pregnant patients based on this assessment. Pregnant women receiving the inactivated virus, bacterial, or toxoid immunizations are safe, and no indication doing so has any negative consequences on the fetus. Pregnant women or those who will become pregnant during flu season should get the annual flu shot. Tetanus toxoid, reduced diphtheria toxoid, and acellular pertussis (Tdap) vaccines should be administered to all pregnant women at the earliest practicable time within the 27–36-week window of gestation. We cordially encourage you to submit your research findings for this special edition of the worldwide magazine of obstetrics, perinatal and neonatal nursing, which is primarily concerned with labor and delivery, pregnancy, and fetal development.
