Special Issue Description

It is possible to identify and evaluate the characteristics of various materials using nuclear techniques, as well as to monitor and improve industrial processes, sterilize and disinfect components, measure pollution levels, and alter chemical, physical, and biological properties to create new materials. Numerous compounds can be analyzed and processed using radiation. Several industrial processes, including the production of hydrogen, district heating or cooling, the extraction of tertiary oil resources, process heat applications like cogeneration, coal to liquids conversion, and assistance in the synthesis of chemical feedstock, can all be powered by nuclear energy. Due to continually rising energy demand, the limited supply of fossil fuels, and the heightened sensitivity to the environmental effects of fossil fuel combustion, there is likely to be a significant increase in the demand for nuclear energy for industrial uses. Unconventional oil resources are being used more frequently to supply the expanding demand, especially for transportation, as conventional oil prices rise. In comparison to other energy sources under consideration for the future, nuclear energy offers a low-carbon option and has significant potential benefits. A nuclear power plant’s heat and steam can be extracted without any technical difficulty. Manufacturers utilize radioisotopes as tracers to track fluid flow and filtration, find leaks, measure engine wear, and detect corrosion in process equipment. Gamma radiation is used in hospitals to sterilize medical supplies and equipment that would otherwise be harmed by heat sterilization, including syringes, gloves, clothes, and instruments. The use of neutron gauges to detect and regulate the moisture content in coal and coke directly benefits the coal industry, which today supplies well over half of the world’s electricity. Gamma sources are also utilized to measure the amount of ash present and the combustion gasses that rise in the stack. Determining the sulfur and nitrogen levels of coal is crucial since these latter elements are very essential due to environmental concerns about these impurities’ potential to generate acid rain. Radiation is also frequently used in the oil industry for business purposes. It takes ongoing work to discover new oil reserves, especially as established locations are used up.

Manuscript Submission information

Manuscripts should be submitted online via the manuscript Engine. Once you register on APID, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline.
All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the email address:[email protected] for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a Double-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for the submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page.
