Special Issue Description

Stroke has a significant socioeconomic impact and is one of the main causes of adult disability and mortality worldwide. The location of the brain injury, the type of stroke (ischemic or hemorrhagic), the access to quick and effective treatments during the hyperacute phase, the setting of in-hospital care during the acute phase, the availability of resources and facilities for rehabilitation, and course the patient’s characteristics all affect the clinical course of stroke patients (age, comorbidities, and baseline functional status and stroke severity).Although older people are much more likely to have a stroke, younger adults are becoming significantly more susceptible. This is mostly because common cardiovascular risk factors like hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, obesity, and inactivity are becoming more prevalent. But there are additional, more intriguing aetiologies for stroke, including vasculitis, posterior reversible vasoconstriction syndrome, and hereditary conditions (e.g. CADASIL). The treatment of individuals with big vascular blockage, the most serious type of acute ischemic stroke, has changed dramatically during the past few years thanks to intra-arterial mechanical thrombectomy. Only a small number of ischemic stroke patients are eligible for the treatment, although it has significantly reduced the burden of residual disability. Neurodegenerative diseases are currently one of the main public health issues that are becoming more common as the population ages. While the Central Nervous System (CNS) changes associated with aging also occur in neurodegenerative disorders, these changes are minimal in healthy aging. Despite improvements in the field’s research studies, many problems remain unanswered. The first query concerns the main factors, such as age-related comorbidities, that can hasten brain aging and encourage neurodegenerative illnesses. Predicting or identifying the development or progression of neurodegenerative illnesses is essential because many of these conditions are only detected in the advanced stages. In light of this, the second question that needs to be answered focuses on potential biomarkers that can forecast or recognize the start of diseases at an early stage. For the treatment of neurodegenerative illnesses, there are not many therapeutic choices.

Manuscript Submission information

Manuscripts should be submitted online via the manuscript Engine. Once you register on APID, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline.
All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the email address:[email protected] for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a Double-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for the submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page.
