Special Issue Description

Arthropods, such as insects and other species, can be very useful in death investigations. Insects can be a reliable alternative specimen for toxicological tests in the absence of the tissues and fluids typically taken for such purposes, in addition to being used to estimate postmortem periods. Additionally, recent studies have shown the presence of medications and/or toxins in the tissues of arthropods has major effects on their development and the rate and patterns of tissue disintegration. Forensic entomology is becoming increasingly popular within the forensic sciences as a method to estimate a portion of the postmortem period using time. Additionally, where no other viable specimens are available, evidence can be used as an alternative toxicology sample. Investigators can benefit from the qualitative data that this sector of study, entomo toxicology, can offer regarding the presence of medicines in the tissues during larval feeding. The presence of pharmaceuticals can also affect how long the insects mature, so the forensic entomologist must constantly take this into account. The effects of numerous medications and toxins on the development of arthropods are covered in this special issue, along with recent developments in the use of arthropods as alternative toxicological specimens.

Manuscript Submission information

Manuscripts should be submitted online via the manuscript Engine. Once you register on APID, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline.
All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the email address:[email protected] for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a Double-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for the submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page.
