Special Issue Description

A variety of efficient and secure items, such as petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, insecticides, cosmetics, food and drink, and household products, are developed with the help of industrial toxicologists. Every industry that produces a good or substance owes a duty of care to the people who will use it to guarantee that it is secure for that use. This means that a lot of industries need to make sure that the goods they offer (and the chemicals that make them up) don’t endanger human health. They must take into account not only whether the product poses a risk to consumers but also to production workers in their factories, professionals who may be exposed to a product more frequently than the average consumer (such as hairdressers), and whether the product might harm the environment once it has been used. The industrial toxicologist is currently dealing with a lot of recent concerns. First, the chemical industry’s technological advancements have increased the number of novel compounds that are being made available to the industry. More than half of the new chemicals have not been fully tested on biological systems before their introduction, since only about 600 of these compounds can be adequately researched by existing facilities out of the approximately 1500 that are released to the industry each year. New procedures and an increase in testing facilities where pre-release screening is mandated by occupational health legislation are both reducing the latitude. However, some compounds will certainly continue to enter the industry without adequate screening for years to come. A growing number of substances that have been in use for some time and were once thought to be harmless have since been demonstrated to have negative impacts on employees, customers, or the environment. As a result, numerous processes need to be reviewed, and skepticism has been raised about several previously thought of as safe operations. The most significant recent issue is occupational cancer. Up until recently, it was thought that the majority of these malignancies were well-known, uncommon, and undoubtedly treatable. Recent research has tended to refute everything in this. Therefore, this special issue focuses on collecting articles that depict the health risks from industrial waste and various other aspects of industrial toxicology.
