Abstract

The healthcare landscape is continuously evolving, demanding innovative solutions to address the diverse needs of patients, caregivers, and medical staff. The design of hospital furniture plays a pivotal role in patient comfort, recovery, and overall experience. This dissertation explores the realm of new furniture design for hospitals, exploring a myriad of concepts and considerations aimed at revolutionizing healthcare environments. Furthermore, the research investigates the need for high-quality, ergonomic, and aesthetically pleasing furniture that meets the functional and psychological needs of patients, visitors, and staff. There’s an increasing need for inventive furniture designs that fulfill the practical needs of medical settings while also enhancing the holistic wellness of patients and healthcare staff. Therefore, this study explores the intersection of design innovation and healthcare environments, focusing on the development of new furniture designs tailored specifically for hospitals. This dissertation’s main objective is to examine the role of innovative hospital furniture design in promoting patient comfort, safety, and recovery. It examines strategies for ensuring cleanability, durability, patient-oriented design, safety, aesthetics, universal design and ergonomics, sustainability, and functionality of the furniture designs. The study considers the impact of design decisions based on modularity, flexibility, durability, and accessibility which will eventually facilitate in the speedy recovery of patients along with comfortable stay for both patients and their attendants. Finally, the dissertation presents a glimpse into the emerging trends, technologies, and innovative approaches of hospital furniture design that extend beyond functionality to encompass elements of comfort, aesthetics, and human-centered innovation. The dissertation emphasizes the significant role of furniture design in contributing to positive healthcare outcomes and the well-being of individuals in medical facilities
