Abstract

Mixed-ligand complexes of Co(II) and Cr(III) ions were synthesized from the reaction of metal chloride salts with α-amino acid (H2L1) as a primary ligand and 1,10-phenanthroline (L2) as secondary ligand. The ligand H2L1 was synthesized via a one-pot reaction involving inobenzothiazol and 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde with HCN. The resulting mononuclear and binuclear complexes were characterized using FTIR, NMR, UV-Vis, TGA, melting point and conductance measurements. The geometry was found to be distorted octahedral. Antibacterial activity was tested against Pseudomonas and Escherichia coli using the well diffusion method.
