nAbstract

n

The built environment of the cities is largely governed by the practices being following in planning and developing different land uses on their lands. Reducing land-man ratio, housing shortage, traffic and transportation problems, safety issues, water crisis, solid waste mis-management, sanitation, etc. are the key challenges faced by the bigger cities of India. One of the strongest reasons for these problems has been the inappropriate approach followed in land use planning and development. The Master Plans of the towns and cities and prepared without giving due regards to the urban settlement system of the region. The examination of inter-linkages and inter-dependencies of the urban settlements of different sizes help it determining the role of a particular town or city. The Master Plan prepared to best fit the role to be performed makes the town or city to function as a primate settlement or a dependent entity. The nature and magnitude of urban infrastructure to be provided becomes more pragmatic. An analysis of system of urban settlements of Punjab as per Census of India 2011 is done to identify the urban regions for which the Master Plans should be prepared following regionalization approach. This approach helps in determining the role of smaller towns around to act as dormitory or satellite towns around the primate city. An effort is made to appraise the local planning area (LPA) earmarked for Master Plan purposes against the urban regions identified through the study.

One of the intense problems that the planet is facing Environment pollution. In India, increasing population, industrialization and urbanization are prime contributors to the present. One of the important and critical issue to prevent damages to the environment is the Treatment and disposal of domestic and industrial wastewater. There is a large gap between the wastewater generation and its treatment. Also, the unregulated discharge of wastewater results in severe pollution of groundwater and surface water in India.

Today in the buzzing world where people hardly get time for themselves and the world where the pollution level continuously rises it is a major need for having a tranquil environment for individuals, as the relationship between humans and nature is already very tumultuous, hence the necessity for a landscape architect increases even more. A landscape architect is the one who creates an environment naturally and socially, He is the one who brings the environment, people, communities, plants, animals, air, water, and everything together. One such architect is Dr. Ravindra Bhan, one of the greatest Indian landscape architects who played a major role in bringing landscape architecture to India.

nAbstract

n

The goal of the current paper is to evolve certain spatial strategies for the Ludhiana City that include a polycentric system of settlements. Cities all over the world have experienced several hurdles over the years, and these challenges have hurt their development, efficiency, and performance, resulting in a slew of dangerous issues. In recent decades, Ludhiana City has also witnessed unprecedented population growth as well as physical growth. A close understanding of the dynamics of urbanization is important for managing the negative impacts posed by urban sprawl. A detailed study has been done to understand the push and pull factors that compel the inner-city population to move outwards to the peri-urban areas and on the other hand, certain other factors pull or attract the peri-urban population or the population from different parts of the country to come in the center or city. The final findings of the study include causes of centralization, its negative effects, forces of development of economic and social activities, problems associated with urban development, physical and environmental implications concerning haphazard growth, non-compatible land uses, and the recommendations to be applicable for the planned and balanced regional growth.

nAbstract

n

Precast/prestressed concrete construction has been promoted over the past half-century on the premise of cost savings in materials and labour, increased product and craftsmanship quality, and construction speed. Contractors’ familiar with precast technology have typically relied on this style of building with great success for solely economic reasons. However, in recent years, pre – cast concrete industry has taken on a whole new meaning in terms of its social and environmental implications.
