Abstract

The evaluation of lemon grass (cymbopogon citratus) performance for petroleum hydrocarbon degradation in soil environment was monitored with respect to contact time or period of exposure. Models were developed in this research to demonstrate the potential of the first-order kinetic, Michaelis Menten and the LineWeaver Burk Plot, and the evaluation of the effect of the biostimulant dosage was monitored in accordance the total petroleum hydrocarbon degradation. The performance of lemon grass (cymbopogon citratus) was rated high and this was attributed to the available nutrients contained in the remediant and the degradation of the crude oil was more effective on the bioreactors set-up with the addition of the room dried biostimulants. The computed functional parameters in relationship to the specific rate of crude oil, dissociation constant of crude oil degradation in each bioreactor activity was determined as demonstrated in this investigation. Application of the lemon grass (cymbopogon citratus) to enhanced environmental clean-up and the evaluation of the biokinetics functional parameters revealed the potential trend of this material as well as its usefulness as major material for biostimulant.
