Abstract

nThe primary objective of this research endeavor was to investigate the impact of Yogic training on specific physiological and psychological parameters among sportspersons. A sample comprising 50 sportspersons (25 male and 25 female), aged between 18 to 25 years, was randomly selected from Ahmedabad for the study. The intervention involved four weeks of Yogic training, during which data were collected at two time points: before the commencement of training (pre-test) and upon completion of the four-week period (post-test). Physiological variables, including Pulse Rate measured using a Pulse Oximeter, and Blood Pressure (both Systolic and Diastolic) measured with a Sphygmomanometer and Stethoscope, were assessed. Additionally, psychological variables such as Anxiety and Stress were measured using questionnaires developed by A. K. P. Sinha and Dr. Prena Puri along with Tejinder Kaur, respectively. Statistical analysis, including Mean, Standard Deviation, and paired ‘t’-test (at a significance level of 0.05), was employed to ascertain the efficacy of Yogic exercises in mitigating anxiety and stress levels among sportspersons between the pre-test and post-test stages. The findings of the study revealed a significant and positive correlation between Yogic training and improvements in physiological variables such as pulse rate and blood pressure, as well as psychological variables including anxiety and stress among sportspersons. The findings of this study underscore the significant efficacy of yogic training on both physiological and psychological variables among sportspersons. Specifically, the results reveal notable improvements in pulse rate, blood pressure (both systolic and diastolic), anxiety, and stress following a four-week yogic intervention. These findings suggest that incorporating yogic practices can be instrumental in enhancing the overall well-being and performance of sportspersons, highlighting the holistic benefits of integrating yoga into athletic training regimens.
