Abstract

Sida Rhombifolia is also called Bala and is a well-known Ayurvedic herbal preparation used to treat inflammation, pain and neurological disorders. Literature calls Bala as Sida cordifolia, Sida, root powder acute, Sida cordata or Sida Rhombifolia subsp. retusa to achieve clinical efficacy of standardization of ksheerBala thailam Balamulacherna is essential. The objective of the study is to authenticate the pharmacognostic standards of Sida Rhombifolia root powder. Sida Rhombifolia was standardized with an emphasis on its application in Ayurvedic medicine, organoleptic, macroscopic, microscopic, preliminary phytochemical, heavy metal, fluorescence, and HPTLC tests.Macroscopic characteristics of the roots were observed; elongated, with few lateral roots, thick, woody, brown colorful and bitter in taste. Sensory properties revealed the essence of the root powder with a creamy and pleasant color odor and slightly bitter taste. Powder microscopic examination the presence of fibers, fibro-sclereids, trachea, vascular elements and calcium oxalate crystals was determined. Physico-chemical studies evaluated total ash (7.5%), water- soluble ash (4.46%), water-soluble ash alkalinity (0.4 mL) and acid- insoluble ash (3.3%). The early phytochemical research revealed the presence of glycosides, alkaloids, phenols, flavonoids, tannins, terpenoids, and quinones. HPTLC analysis showed different Rf values due to the diversity of different phytoconstituents. The scientific information obtained during the research will be useful to identify and establish standards for the primary medicinal use of Sida Rhombifolia. quality and purity KsheeraBala thailam, Ayurvedic formulation.
