About the Journal

International Journal of Virus Studies [3049-1924(e)] is a peer-reviewed online journal launched in 2024 that aims to publish high-quality research on all aspects of viruses, including their biology, genetics, pathogenesis, epidemiology, evolution, and control. The journal is dedicated to promoting the understanding of viral infections and their impact on human and animal health, as well as the development of effective strategies for the prevention and treatment of viral diseases. The International Journal of Virus Studies welcomes original research articles, review articles, short communications, and letters to the editor. All manuscripts submitted to the journal are subject to rigorous peer review by experts in the field. The journal also publishes special issues and supplements on specific topics of interest, as well as conference proceedings.

Focus & Scope

    • Viral Pathogenesis: Mechanisms of virus-induced pathology, tissue tropism, viral persistence and latency, determinants of disease severity, animal models of infection.
    • Virus–Host Interactions and Molecular Virology: Viral entry, replication, and assembly, host and restriction factors, subversion of cellular pathways, reverse genetics, viral protein structure and function, host targets for therapy.
    • Viral Genomics, Evolution, and Phylogenetics: Viral genome sequencing and annotation, mutation and recombination, quasispecies dynamics, phylogenetic analysis, evolutionary models, virus classification.
    • Viral Bioinformatics: Computational analysis of viral genomes, protein structure prediction, variant calling, genomic epidemiology pipelines, modeling of viral spread and evolution.
    • Immunology of Viral Infections: Innate and adaptive antiviral immunity, correlates of protection, immune evasion, immunopathology, immunotherapeutic approaches.
    • Viral Diagnostics: Molecular assays, serology, antigen and point-of-care tests, sequencing-based diagnostics, viral load quantification, assay validation and performance.
    • Antiviral Therapeutics: Antiviral drug discovery and development, resistance to antivirals, monoclonal antibody therapy, preclinical and clinical evaluation, treatment outcomes.
    • Viral Vaccinology: Traditional and novel vaccine platforms, vaccine design, immunogenicity, efficacy and effectiveness, vaccine safety, duration of vaccine-induced protection.
    • Viral Epidemiology and Surveillance: Prevalence, incidence, and transmission dynamics, molecular and genomic epidemiology, outbreak detection, sentinel and wastewater surveillance, epidemiological modeling.
    • Zoonotic, Emerging, and Re-emerging Viruses: Spillover from animal reservoirs, virus ecology in wildlife and livestock, drivers of emergence, risk assessment, pandemic preparedness and response, One Health approaches.

The journal publishes original research articles, reviews, short communications, and letters to the editor, together with peer-reviewed special issues, supplements, and conference proceedings. Bacterial, fungal, and parasitic disease studies with no viral component are out of scope. The journal serves virologists, infectious disease clinicians, immunologists, epidemiologists, vaccine and antiviral developers, and public health specialists.
