Article Withdrawal Policy

International Journal of Cell Biology and Cellular Functions (IJCBCF) – integrity of the scholarly record through clear withdrawal, retraction, removal, and replacement procedures.

Last Updated on: 22 Aug 2025

International Journal of Cell Biology and Cellular Functions (IJCBCF) understands the importance of upholding the integrity and completeness of the scholarly record for its readership. We are committed to maintaining trust in the authority of our electronic archive.

IJCBCF adheres to the fundamental principle of scholarly communication, which places the sole and independent responsibility for manuscript decisions on the editor(s) of the journal. This commitment is further strengthened by the policies established by the IJCBCF's editorial board and is subject to legal obligations regarding issues such as libel, copyright infringement, and plagiarism.

Article withdrawal, retraction, removal, or replacement are actions reserved for exceptional circumstances, where clear evidence exists of ethical violations, serious errors, or misconduct in published research articles. The responsibility for maintaining the publication record lies with the editor, who is guided by the IJCBCF's editorial board policies and legal requirements regarding libel, copyright infringement, and plagiarism. Once an article has been published, it becomes part of the scholarly archive, serving as a permanent record of scholarly transactions, and published articles are expected to remain unaltered as much as possible.

01 Withdrawal

Article Withdrawal

Pre-publicationExceptional UseEthics & Compliance
Article withdrawal is used when a manuscript is taken out of the publication process before, or very shortly after, acceptance. It is reserved for situations where serious issues are identified with the manuscript or its submission.

Article withdrawal may be requested by authors, conference organizers, or third parties, or initiated by IJCBCF when concerns arise. It is intended to prevent the progression of manuscripts that could compromise ethical standards, legal obligations, or the reliability of the scientific record.

Article Withdrawal Charge

  • Safety concerns: potential risk to public health or safety.

02 Retraction

Article Retraction

Post-publicationSerious MisconductPublic Notice
Article retraction is taken when the integrity or reliability of a published article is fundamentally compromised; the editor-in-chief decides, often with the board.

Retractions address fraudulent data, unethical practices, or major errors undermining validity. IJCBCF publishes a clear retraction notice identifying the work and reasons.

Article Retraction Charge

$ 2000.00

Is your article published elsewhere or under investigation?

The retracted article is labeled “retracted” in all versions and, where possible, across external databases. Reports are investigated promptly with appropriate action.

Scenariosâ–¶
  • Plagiarism or fabrication/falsification of data.
  • Ethical violations (human/animal without approvals/consent).
  • Serious errors affecting conclusions.
  • Duplication / redundant publication.
  • Legal issues (copyright, defamation, etc.).
Consequencesâ–¶

Retraction is initiated by the editor (with authors/third parties as needed). A retraction notice is published; the original remains online as a historical record, clearly marked as retracted and not to be cited as valid evidence.

03 Removal

Article Removal

ExceptionalLegal RiskPermanent Action
Article removal is a permanent takedown used only when continued availability poses serious legal, ethical, or safety risks.

Considered when a retraction + watermark are insufficient; IJCBCF balances transparency with harm mitigation.

Note: Reserved for court orders, privacy violations, or risk of serious harm.

04 Replacement

Article Replacement

Corrected VersionMaintains DOIExceptional
Article replacement swaps in a corrected version while retaining the DOI and citation details—used when retraction isn’t warranted but the original cannot stand uncorrected.

Authors should contact the editorial office for correction/retraction/replacement. The board evaluates error nature and impact.

Replacement maintains continuity and ensures readers access the most accurate version.

05 Expressions

Expressions of Concern

Interim NoticeUnder Investigation

Expressions of Concern are issued when evidence suggests unreliability or ethical problems, but investigations are ongoing.

  • Unresolved ethics compliance issues.
  • Potential misconduct under investigation.
  • Data integrity concerns.
  • Legal disputes affecting status.

  • Allegations/evidence of misconduct (fabrication, falsification, plagiarism).
