    Special Issue Description

    Dear Collegues,

It is challenging to transport big biotherapeutics over the blood-brain barrier (BBB), and biologics' clinical success in treating a variety of peripheral disorders has not translated to CNS applications. A BBB delivery strategy must be incorporated into drug development for CNS-targeting treatments because the great majority of biologics with CNS targets that have entered clinical trials have not been developed to cross the BBB, which may be a factor in their lack of efficacy.

Exploiting receptors expressed by the brain endothelium, whose physiological function is to promote the transport of endogenous protein ligands from the circulation into the brain via a receptor-mediated transcytosis (RMT) route, is a promising method for delivering medicines across the BBB. RMT-related receptors can be targeted by antibodies, which can then be employed as molecular Trojan horses to deliver therapeutic payloads over the BBB.

    Manuscript Submission information

Manuscripts should be submitted online by registering and logging in to this link. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed.
Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent on email address:[email protected] for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page.
