Special Issue Description
Tobacco is cited as a model plant for examining how genetic modifications affect biomass output, lignification, and plant growth. The ability of tobacco to produce seed oil in both well-known and novel types that are nicotine-free has also been researched.
The high quantity of high-quality seeds and seed oil for conversion into biofuels in one of these health-friendly types, Solaris, has been granted a patent. An overview of the economic policies and discussions surrounding second-generation biofuels and alternative fuels in Europe and other parts of the world is provided in this chapter. This field's sustainability challenges are discussed.
The Solaris pilot plants in South Africa are finally considered from the standpoint of a sustainable economy.
