    Special Issue Description

    Dear Collegues,

Due to bacterial resistance and limited drug exposure at the infection site, intravenous and oral antibiotics are not usually effective for treating lung infections. A novel optimyxin combo medication has been created by Purdue University researchers to treat bacterial lung infections. Infections brought on by multi-drug resistant Gram-negative "superbugs" have frequently been treated with optimyxin as a last resort; nevertheless, inhaled optimyxin can be harmful to the lungs.

In comparison to the commonly used breathed optimyxin B and colistin, the novel formulations created by Purdue researchers create a potent therapeutic option with superior antibacterial killing and much-reduced toxicity. The Purdue dry powder formulation, which exhibits good stability and strong aerosolization capability, also shows potential as an inhaled treatment.
