Special Issue Description

Electricity was intended to be provided to farms by the REA. Due to the high cost of bringing electricity to rural areas, nearly 90% of farms lacked electricity in 1936. The process of bringing electricity to rural and remote locations is known as rural electrification. Due to the national grids’ ability to supply all the electricity needed by rural populations, many areas are experiencing massive market failures. faster implementation that, by ensuring reliable access to power, can boost local employment and the local economy. Utilizing locally accessible resources aids in energy independence and security. free of pollution and sustainable. Rural electrification boosted farm employment, farm population, and rural property values in the short term, but had little effect on the surrounding non-agricultural economy. Benefits outweighed historical expenses, even in thinly populated rural areas. Electricity availability supports long-term development of the economy and society. First, by an increase in academic performance. With the advent of LED lighting, students who were previously compelled to study during the day can now do it in the early morning or well into the night. For example, interviews with school teachers in Kenya revealed that having access to light has enabled them to add extra hours of instruction earlier and later in the day to cover content that cannot be sufficiently covered during regular hours. Additionally, schools with access to electricity have witnessed advances in test scores and graduation rates as well as the ability to recruit instructors of a higher caliber, increasing the human capital entering the labor force in the future.
