With the advent of LED lighting, students who were previously compelled to study during the day can now do it in the early morning or well into the night. For example, interviews with school teachers in Kenya revealed that having access to light has enabled them to add extra hours of instruction earlier and later in the day to cover content that cannot be sufficiently covered during regular hours. Additionally, schools with access to electricity have witnessed advances in test scores and graduation rates as well as the ability to recruit instructors of a higher caliber, increasing the human capital entering the labor force in the future.
