Special Issue Description

As far as childhood tumors go, high-risk neuroblastoma (HR-NB) is still the most hazardous. The discovery of novel therapeutic modalities is of utmost significance. Recently, we combined fendiline hydrochloride, an inhibitor of several transporters involved in the multidrug resistance of cancer cells, with the traditional pharmacological approach to NB, represented by cisplatin, and found that this combination increased the ability of cisplatin to induce apoptosis. To find a new and more effective treatment for SKNBE2 xenografts in NOD-SCID mice, we co-administered acetazolamide, a carbonic anhydrase isoform IX (CAIX) inhibitor that has been shown to boost chemotherapy efficacy in a variety of cancer types. The discrepancies in the three medications rise more than twelvefold when taken together, according to our research.
