Abstract

Introduction and objectives of the study: – Chronic renal failure is a gradual, irreversible decline in kidney function, leading to uremia. This condition necessitates hemodialysis to manage the body’s internal environment. Dialysis becomes essential at the final stage of chronic kidney disease, known as end-stage renal disease. Objectives of the study are as: i) The objectives of this study are: i) To evaluate caregivers’ understanding of dietary regulations following dialysis in chronic kidney disease patients. ii) To examine caregivers’ perspectives on dietary regulations after dialysis for chronic kidney disease patients. iii) To determine the relationship between caregivers’ knowledge and attitudes regarding post-dialysis dietary regulations for chronic kidney disease patients. iv) To explore how knowledge scores correlate with selected demographic factors among caregivers of chronic kidney disease patients regarding post-dialysis dietary regulations. Methodology: This study used a descriptive survey design with purposive sampling, involving 50 caregivers aged 16 to 55. Data was collected using a structured knowledge questionnaire and a 5-point Likert scale. Both descriptive and inferential statistical methods were used for analysis. Results: The study found that out of 50 caregivers, 44 (88%) demonstrated adequate knowledge, while 6 (12%) had moderately adequate knowledge. The average knowledge score was 20.4, with a mean percentage of 85 and a standard deviation of 2.25. In terms of attitude, a majority of 45 (90%) showed favorable attitudes, whereas 5 (10%) had neutral attitudes. The mean attitude score was 59.84, with a mean percentage of 86.72 and a standard deviation of 5.6. There was a positive correlation between knowledge and attitude (r = 0.13) at the 0.05 significance level. Conclusions: The chi-square analysis indicated a significant association between knowledge score and selected demographic variables such as age (χ2 = 8.04, df = 3) and educational qualifications (χ2 = 8.05, df = 3). Additionally, there was a positive correlation between knowledge and attitude (r = 0.13) at the 0.05 significance level.
