Abstract

Indian economy plans to conserve the energy which is consumed by the industrial sector. Government of India has made it mandatory to conduct periodic energy audits in the industrial sector which is to be followed up with a practical implementation of energy conservation (ECON) measures as suggested by the energy audit team. Energy audit has been conducted in two phases namely, pre-audit and post audit phase. During pre-audit phase, initially, power ratings of machines, appliances, light loads and the real-time energy meter readings are noted. The quantitative data measured on the project site is analysed to identify the inefficient machines/appliances that consume more power and inappropriate usage of appliances/machines. Based on this analysis, various problem-specific methods have been examined to yield substantial energy savings. Suggestions and recommendations are provided for installing energy efficient appliances with reduced power ratings, appropriate usage of loads to enable the possibility of load shifting management technique. Energy audit inferred that the suggested measures are capable of reducing the energy consumption cost thereby saving the energy consumption of the stone industry at a greater level.
