Phase Separation of Proteins: A New Stage in Cell Biology
Abstract Submission Deadline : 30/11/2023
Manuscript Submission Deadline : 25/12/2023
Special Issue Description
Phase separation is recognized to be involved in a wide range of cellular functions, such as the synthesis of the cytoskeleton, signaling complexes, traditional membrane-less organelles, and countless other supramolecular assemblies. Our understanding of the functional significance of sequence degeneracy (low complexity) and protein disorder is given a new framework by the idea of phase separation. The body of evidence is mounting that membrane-less organelles are improperly regulated in disease and that phase transitions play a critical role in human disorders linked to protein aggregation. Novel biomaterials may be influenced by a better understanding of the physical concepts and molecular interactions underlying protein phase separation. Organelles and cellular compartments organize biological stuff. The majority of well-known organelles have a membrane border separating them from their environment. Additionally, there exist a large number of so-called membrane-less organelles. According to recent research, these supramolecular assemblies of proteins and RNA molecules originate from protein phase separation. Recent research has illuminated the molecular characteristics, construction, control, and operation of membrane-less organelles. The molecular principles of an emerging field are beginning to be established through the application of methods from cell biology, biophysics, physical chemistry, structural biology, and bioinformatics. This is opening the door for exciting discoveries, such as new therapeutic strategies for the treatment of age-related disorders.

Manuscript Submission information
Manuscripts should be submitted online via the manuscript Engine. Once you register on APID, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline.
All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the email address:[email protected] for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a Double-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for the submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page.
